Becky and The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!

You know those days when you feel as though the universe is out to get you? I am having one of those days. I should have went back to bed and tried again.
It started off this morning with J running inside after checking on his baby rabbits. “Mom..there’s something wrong. They are all cold and stiff.” Uh-oh. That’s probably never a good sign. I went out and grabbed the five very dead babies. We had read that sometimes if kits get too cold they will become stiff and dead like and you can bring them back around with heating pad or warm water. However, these babies were dead. I *knew* they were gone, but worked on warming them for over an hour. I promised him I wouldn’t stop till I was totally sure they were dead. This is a lesson—if he is going to raise rabbits he is going to have to get used to losing some. BUT…my heart is just breaking for him. He was so excited. And he lost ALL of his VERY FIRST litter. That just doesn’t seem fair to this mom. But, we will come up with a plan with him and he can keep plugging away if he chooses too.

Sometimes being a mom without magical powers just really stinks.

So, after I had declared the babies officially dead, I was chatting with my friend. We were discussing vacuum cleaners. “Mine is about 6 years old and I think we need to replace it soon,” I told her. I should have realized my mistake as soon as those words left my mouth. I didn’t get to vacuum last night and I REALLY need too, so while all the dc kids were quietly reading books and lunch was baking, I thought I would do it really fast. Plugged that bad boy in, turned it on, had it running for about 30 seconds when the huge cloud of rubber smelling smoke came rolling out of it and it died. Nice.

All before 11 am.

Can I get a do-over?
