Becky and The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!

You know those days when you feel as though the universe is out to get you? I am having one of those days. I should have went back to bed and tried again.
It started off this morning with J running inside after checking on his baby rabbits. “Mom..there’s something wrong. They are all cold and stiff.” Uh-oh. That’s probably never a good sign. I went out and grabbed the five very dead babies. We had read that sometimes if kits get too cold they will become stiff and dead like and you can bring them back around with heating pad or warm water. However, these babies were dead. I *knew* they were gone, but worked on warming them for over an hour. I promised him I wouldn’t stop till I was totally sure they were dead. This is a lesson—if he is going to raise rabbits he is going to have to get used to losing some. BUT…my heart is just breaking for him. He was so excited. And he lost ALL of his VERY FIRST litter. That just doesn’t seem fair to this mom. But, we will come up with a plan with him and he can keep plugging away if he chooses too.

Sometimes being a mom without magical powers just really stinks.

So, after I had declared the babies officially dead, I was chatting with my friend. We were discussing vacuum cleaners. “Mine is about 6 years old and I think we need to replace it soon,” I told her. I should have realized my mistake as soon as those words left my mouth. I didn’t get to vacuum last night and I REALLY need too, so while all the dc kids were quietly reading books and lunch was baking, I thought I would do it really fast. Plugged that bad boy in, turned it on, had it running for about 30 seconds when the huge cloud of rubber smelling smoke came rolling out of it and it died. Nice.

All before 11 am.

Can I get a do-over?

Random Me

This is something that everyone was doing on Myspace last year. I love it and add things to it every now and then. My husband just says it proved what he already knew...I'm nuts. =-)*

I love the rain and thunderstorms. (But only if Danny is home) My favorite smells are new crayons, coffee in the can, rain, new baby, the library, and eucalyptus. I have a smell fetish. I smell everything all the time and I'm not even really sure why. I have gotten so good I can usually tell what came from what store. This drives my family crazy. I am a Sex and the City junkie. I love going outside when it snows and listening to how quiet it is. Sometimes I snort when I laugh. I can not live without my phone. My husband won my heart when he stuck tape in my hair—I was 12 at the time. I hate cooking meals, but love to bake goodies. I have a candle obsession. I love getting the mail. My friends are as important to me as my family. I am afraid of snakes, mice, and ticks. (Well, actually I'm afraid of anything that feeds off of you.) I do not like loud people, but my husband says I'm loud. I threw up several times a day for 14 weeks when I was pregnant. (Thats 28 weeks of barfing!) I, as a newborn, attended my mothers high school graduation. I love cereal and could eat it for every meal. I also love it soggy. I hate getting shots, but getting blood drawn doesn't bother me as bad. I love love love buying shoes and having them in my closet, but only wear my tennis shoes and usually just run around home in my socks.. I hate shopping for bras. I would love to be able to decorate cakes. I once ran through a wooden gate when my Dad was trying to teach me how to drive a stick shift. I can not drive a stick to this day. There are only a handful of people I am close to and really "get me." It pisses me off when people are late-even only a few minutes. I usually go to bed around 8. I think Jack Sparrow is sexy, but just normal Johnny Depp is not. I love to take pictures, and it thrills me when my pictures come out the way I pictured them in my head. I think Tom Cruise is a psychopath. I love the smell of my husband when he's been working on the car or outside. I hyperventilate when I have to speak a lot in front of a group. I love to read magazines and HAVE to read People every week. I love my houseplants, and burnt popcorn. I like to watch "Little House on the Prairie" and think it would be awesome to live like that for a short time. I can not spell. I am addicted to the internet. Having my entire house clean makes me feel peaceful. I love MySpace and Facebook. I hate my handwriting.I am totally head over heels in love with the Japanese Cherry Blossom scent from Bath and Body Work. My husband thinks my toes are ugly-like they've been chopped off with a hack saw, but I think having your second toe longer than the rest is just weird. I have never had long nails. I have bitten them ever since I have had the motor skills to be able to. I love Ebay. I had a My Child doll named Laura when I was little. I don't know what happened to her. I still miss her. I love Ripley's Believe It Or Not and weird stuff like that. I hate Lee jeans and LA gear shoes. I love my cats and dogs, but having animal hair on my clothes (or on someone elses) grosses me out. I love snowmen. Dead fish give me the willies. I have a bad habit of leaving the junk mail in the car. This irritates my husband. TV programs about eating disorders of all kinds fascinate me. I love marshmallows in my hot chocolate and will refill them several times before I finish the hot chocolate. I drink Diet Dr Pepper all day long. Amusement park rides are so much fun, but make me oh-so- sick. I used to be afraid of seeing UFO's and wouldn't look up into the night sky. I love to fish, but will not take the hook out of the fish when I catch one. The thought of ghosts scare me, but I believe in them. I hate scary movies and am still traumatized by Blair Witch. I love black and white pictures, and also old photos. I think Harry Potter rocks! I always say "cartilage" instead of "cartridge." Insurance talk gives me a headache. I love being married…really. I was not conscious when I had my oldest son. I went to sleep and woke up and had had a baby. I was convinced my second son was a girl-until the sonogram. I pick my split ends when I am bored. I love fireplaces but do not have one. I am 14 years older than my little sister. New foods make me nervous. I was 12 weeks pregnant with my oldest before I figured out what was going on….I was 4 weeks with my second! I have a fear of not being able to find the door in places I've never been to before. I would love to be a doula someday. I get just as excited about Christmas time as my boys do. Coyote howls make my hair stand up. I can't stand it when people have hair coming out of their noses and ears, or bad teeth. I hate sweet potatoes and mutton. People who think they are too good piss me off. I cheated on a test ONE time in high school and Mr. Alderman caught me. I think the movie "Legends of the Fall" is one of the best movies ever. It is how I came up with my son "Tristen's" name. My dad sent out Easter cards a couple of days after I was born, and spelled my name wrong. When I love a song, I play it over and over and over and over. I love the Twilight series and to date have read them all 10 times now. I didn't know that Thanksgiving was on Thursday every year until Thanksgiving 2008.

This is fun!

Look at me! I am blogging! Actually, I have wanted to do this for a long time, and since reading some of the other blogs on here, I decided to finally do it. I am not sure who is going to actually read this, but it will be nice to sit and write…and probably make people laugh…or shake their heads. I’m not sure which.
Things are actually going pretty well here in Bruckner World. We are really busy these days.
J is in 5th grade and right now is in his 3rd year of playing Pee-Wee basketball. Wow! There has been a lot of improvement this year. It’s really neat to see how the boys really are “getting” it now. I no longer think “OMG..he’s got the ball” and close my eyes when ever he gets passed the ball! ;-) It’s always been fun to watch, but it’s really exciting to see how far these boys have come since starting out. He’s really big into his rabbit project. He had his very first “planned” litter born to his Californian rabbit on Monday night. She had 5 fat, bald, squirmy, little babies. He was so excited that he forgot to study for his social studies test. Let’s just say THAT didn’t work out so well for him. Lessons learned, right? Anyway, his goal for the rabbits is to work on improving his line and start showing a bit. He’s got a couple of them sold already to someone who wants them for manure. He’s quite the little businessman.
T is in the 3rd grade and is doing well. He is our comedian, drama boy and our junk food processor. Has everyone seen the episode of Drake and Josh where Drake stops eating junk food and his body goes through detox?? Yeah, that’s T. He better hope the Bruckner metabolism continues to follow him through life! This year I have really started to see a love for books. T loves to read and they seem to really suck him in. He’s also become very musical. I love to listen to him play on his keyboard. He practices over and over and over till he can play songs he knows. I asked him if he would like to take piano lessons, but he doesn’t seem interested at the moment. Playing by ear is working for him I guess.
Danny’s doing well. He is working at a wood shop here in town. Anytime Dan is playing with wood or power tools he is happy. He’s incredibly talented, and I always love to see what he’s been up too down at the shop. Danny has also gotten really into rabbits. But he couldn’t get your typical floppy eared cute little bunnies. He has to get manly King Kong type rabbits. The breed he chose to breed and show weigh…get this….20lbs! Think small dog. I don’t think we will have to worry about the neighbors cats doing anything to these things. Anyway, he goes to Hays Sunday to bring home his very first pair. He’s also been busy planning out our garden… and the assault our lawn. He’s talked about tilling it up for many years, but I have been able to talk him out of it. I think this is the year though. I dread having to look at dirt clogs and thinking about the mud when it rains about makes me want to scream. I like grass. Grass is good. Even it is splotchy and worn from bikes and football games. Oh well.
I just had my 6th year anniversary of doing childcare. I still love it as much as I did when I first started. It’s been very bittersweet to see some of these kids I’ve had since they were little ones go off to kindergarten.
I am itching for spring to get here so I can get to work in my flower beds. Danny can till up the grass but his STRICT INSTUCTIONS not to touch my beds! =-)
